
Flea and Tick Control for Pets
We love our pets with all our hearts. We want them to be safe from harm and all illness. Taking them to the veterinarian can help prevent most internal diseases and outward ailments. Among the biggest concerns for pet owners is pest and parasites. Common pest infestations for cats and dogs can range from worms to fleas and ticks. Fleas and ticks are the biggest nuisance and danger to both humans and pets. Ticks can carry the lymes disease, an illness that is transmitted via the saliva or tick bite. In order to prevent the spread of this nasty diseases, many pet owners aim to protect their pets from fleas, ticks, and other pests with the following products and medications:
1. Flea spray
Flea and tick spray comes in two variations. The first spray can kill, ticks, fleas, flea larvae, and eggs. Usually, these spray for pets can for only up to 5 to 7 days maximum. The pet spray is non-lethal to animals. The flea and tick spray for the home offers the same fighting agent, however, this spray is not for animals, but for furniture and carpets can last up to around 7 to 12 months. The time is dependent solely on the brand and product. The yard flea and tick spray are for outside only and acts as a control agent for the yard and around the outside of the home. The yard spray would last between 4 to 12 weeks at most. Again the time varies on each product.
2. Flea drops
Flea drops are flea and tick medications that are applied as an ointment that takes effect within days after application and lasts up to 30 days. The packaging will come with a 3 month supply or 3 flea and tick treatments. Many of these application drops are waterproof. They come in different dosages based on the size of your pet (usually by weight).
3. Flea baths
Flea baths help with control of the tick and flea problem in shampoo form. Depending on the product the bath can last up to 5 days to around a month. The longevity of the shampoo can vary on the brand and where you go to get. It is good to keep track of how often one has to give their pet a bath. The shampoo also can come in different scents and formulas, do research before purchasing the shampoo.
4. Flea collars
Fleas and tick collars are a collar equipped with flea medicine that act as a barrier and repels or kills any living insects on the animal’s body. The collar can last up between 3 to 7 months. Many flea collars also come in reflective material so to add safety for the animal at night. The collar would kill fleas, eggs, larvae, and ticks. Some collars would also detach the tick from the animal body while killing them. Generally, the collars are for animals that are fully grown. The collar is adjustable.
