Types of mascara and their selection

Our eyes are the most delicate and precious organ. But when the time comes to think about eye makeup, we can never forget eyelashes. There is always a craze for thick, long, and luscious eyelashes. Of course, all of us are not lucky enough to have beautiful eyes with long eyelashes. Fortunately, the cosmetic industry is there to help us, and one of the solutions provided by experts is the mascara. In the market, various types and compositions are available for the mascara.

Mascara comprises polymers, oils, and waxes and is classified on the basis of different parameters; one class of mascara includes water-soluble mascaras and waterproof mascara. The basic difference between the two is that waterproof mascara is long lasting and do not get flaked. Soluble mascaras can easily flake and are not for a long-term impact. Comparatively, waterproof mascara is difficult to remove with ordinary removers as they require oil-based ones, while water-soluble mascaras are removed easily with basic makeup removers.

Depending on the composition, mascara can be categorized as

  • Powder mascara
Powder mascara is used in a different manner. You need to add a few drops of water into it and you need to use a wand to apply it. It is useful for giving a feel of false eyelashes.
  • Cream mascara
This type of mascara has a creamy texture. It is useful for thin and sparse eyelashes and provides depth to the eyes. The drawback of cream mascara is that it smudges easily and requires a special applicator.
  • Liquid mascara
The most common type used is liquid mascara. It is more popular among women who have slightly curled lashes. It enhances the appearance of your eyes by sharpening the lashes. It is available in water-soluble and waterproof variations.

Selection of mascara applicators is also very important. Different types of mascara applicators are available. You need to take a decision depending on your types of eyelashes.

  • For small eyelashes, straight mascara wands are recommended because they are easy to use on small lashes.
  • The curved brush is preferred as a mascara applicator for the people with more curls and lifted lashes.
  • A comb brush is useful for the uniform application of mascara making them prominent. It also adds volume and length to the eyelashes.
  • Long brush is useful to give a lengthening effect on lashes. They define and separate lashes properly.
  • One more type of applicator comes with a big brush. They coat lashes with more mascara and give more volume to the eyelashes. They are perfect for giving an extra thickness to the eyelashes. It is difficult to use for beginners, but after practicing, you can use this type of brush easily.

You should not use the mascara that is older than three months because, as mentioned earlier, our eyes are most precious and delicate organs and we use a mascara brush on eyelashes. Mascara tubes are prone to germs and are at more risk of bacteria if the product crosses three months.
